Even with my vote and another bracelet on his wrist Men the Master missed the cut for the WSOP tournament of Champions.

I have seen what a generous man he is,not only to fellow Vietnamese. Twice I have attended dinners at the American Legion near the Bike in Bell Gardens where Men invited everyone to have dinner on him .Following dinner he organised a poker tournament to raise money for the struggling Legion. All his family attended as well as David Pham, Lou Diamond Phillips + Vanna Tea.

He kept WTP (or WTF as Ftrain renamed it) frontman Robert Turner alive by entering him in tournaments as well as new Hawaiian Gardens TD Warren Karp.

Men is very grateful for being able to live in America, a country he arrived in with just a pair of hands he informed me recently.He hasn’t forgotten those left behind in S.Vietnam and sends food and supplies over regularly. In fact, if he plays in this tournament, 20% of money won will be heading there. His donations has improved the lives of many Vietnamese.

This is a poker event though so just to remind you Men has multiple cashes at every WSOP since 1988. He cashed six times in both 1995 and 2003.He has 65 WSOP cashes. Men has bracelets in Ace to five triple draw,2 in stud, Omaha8, LHE, Stud8. Notice, no bracelet yet in NLHE  but that doesn’t mean “tne Master” is to be taken lightly in these events.

With those results he should be a shoo in for this tournaments and deserves a place in the Poker Hall of Fame.

With nine poker tables  erected security had to have a size restriction enforced so Brandon wasn’t there to defend his title alongside Warren Karp. Who  needs Laker girls when six of Men’s daughter attended including Corona drinking Roxie? Also present poker magazine owner Stan Sludikoff, FT pro David “Dragon” Pham and Lou Diamond Phillips. The latter entertained everyone with a Spanish version of “La Bamba”, posed for photos before sitting next to the Legion Commander in the tournament.

After serving enough food to feed an army (everything from Asian noodles to lobster followed by banana/strawberry cake) the brave sank a shot of snake juice and pulled out a c note to play the tournament.

Men the Master guaranteed a first prize of $2000. Men tried to score card player points for the tournament but Barry Shulman is on a world cruise and son Jeff is well just ” Happy” right now as he tries to locate Paul Philips for some coaching before his final table appearance.

Before the tournament entertainment was provided by a live cover band and a magician performed his magic illusions. A comedian was promised but the joke was on him as he probably saw the crowd of Viets next to the Vets and realised his war jokes probably would spoil the good vibe .

Two bottles of snake juice were auctioned for $200.Some Vietnamese believe the snake juice should be consumed twice a day to aid against lumbago and put some sex in your drive

Men informed me today he raised $11k. Not sure he if he was talking about the dinner or in a hand at the WPT..

 

Men brings along lots of attractive Vietnamese women and the combination of food/poker may tempt Sara Chau out of her Long Beach lovenest.

Dinner will be followed by a little poker tournament where Men has guaranteed $1000 to the winner. The tournament is ultra soft as Brandon made the Final Table at the last one and the only FT he usually makes is when colouring up chips at the Commerce .

I attended the first one and I can say that Men the Master was very generous to the Legion, entering his whole family (including mother in law) buying the lobster dinner and matching the money raised.
