It is a day, in England, when everyone goes outdoors after a day spent indoors with relatives. The weather usually messes with plans but it is a big sporting day. Every football team plays and lots of horse racing.

Living in Vegas everyday is similar except some days the buffets are more expensive. If ever I was homesick it was on Boxing Day. Now that I am in L.A. I was really looking forward to today as it is opening day at Santa Anita. I, along with 35000 others,were not disappointed. Santa Anita gave away a free high quality calendar , free tickets to future meets and unveiled a new wonderful bronze of John Henry. If that wasn’t enough Zenyatta dropped by to say farewell to her adoring public. If it is “Girl power” day then Chantel Sutherland winning on her first ride after returning from Canada was too much to ask for but it happened.

Add to that no horses were injured in ten races. I cannot believe they want to return to dirt racing where injuries happened multiple times every racing day.

I met Nik at the Commerce in January and always have a chat with him when he plays in L.A.

Number 2 is female jockey Chantel Sutherland. Never been introduced but I always show up well in horse racing search engines as horse race blogging is pretty rare compared to poker.

Number 3 is Alex Krisak who I photographed once at the Commerce but really don’t know too much about him.

Nice to see the trainers giving these ladies the rides they deserve.

No chance of the final six making it to the Clippers game. The game was slowed down by Iceman all afternoon but even after his departure everyone wanted to stay for the big day tomorrow. The best poker is played at this stage but it would be too expensive to film and edit , I suppose.
