Kentucky Derby winner Mine that Bird, Tiago or Colonal John. Who would win the Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita today? Answer: A horse from England that usually runs at lowly Wolverhampton on a Saturday evening.The horse would not be rated in the top 100 of Englands three year olds. I was all over this story yesterday with Kieren Fallon flying over to ride this horse. Mine that Birds jockey Calvin Boral should have taken a leaf out of Kieren’s book and taken a few rides to get used to the track.

Mine that Bird is a small horse and looked really well.However, SoCal jocks are not going to allow Boral slip through on the inside rail or do the horses stop on this fast ground.Boral started last and stayed there until the stretch. Result,Mine that Bird never showed up but certainly wasn’t beat up in defeat.

Did I back my English invader? No! Although at $38 I should have thrown a fiver on just for all the trouble the jockey and trainer had gone to to race here today.

Race 5 was called ” Commerce casino day at the races”. To dispell the rumour that I am employed by the Commerce to write negative things about the Bike staff I was not invited to the party!

Zenyatta did not disappoint the crowd and she plays around in the parade ring and in the race itself. 13 for 13 I saw a legend.
