As L.A. bathes in sunshine for the first time in a week , players converged on the, pleasing to the eye, Commerce casino in an area where visual stimulation is at a minimum. Todays event was for casino employees. Tomorrow, expect a full room for Day1a of a $335 no rebuy, $400k guarantee, tournament.
Sara Chau has taken a tour of Asia, including a visit to Macau, since she caught the eye in the LAPC. Maria Ho also promised to support the Matt Savage organised event. Not sure if Matt has work to do in Monte Carlo but if so young Sam will keep things ticking over. I love the staff here they are allowed to have a little fun while at work.
The Casino Employees event attracted 77 with Jeff Harris winning $5k. Fifth was poker policeman Scott Diamond and in seventh Matt’s wife MaryAnne Savage. Jeff is the Casino operations manager at the Commerce.
A sell out! 1000 players entered today with another 270 signed up already for Day1b tomorrow. Could be a $150k first prize. Not even swine flu or the May Day immigration march downtown could keep people away. Maybe, the Kentucky Derby tomorrow will keep a few at home. Will Phil Hellmuth make it onto prime time TV at Churchill Downs? Although only a handful of the entrants today were female I managed to capture those that lasted at least three levels. Lacey Jones played but left before my arrival although we did meet and greet later downstairs.TMichelle one of 36 to survive to Day2.Top ten:
1) George Muradyan 191k
2) Tim Pong 187k
3) Cuu Hoang 161k
4) Dung Le 129k
5) Ryan Valentine 129k
6) Joe Lerman 124k
7) Rob MacDonald 121k
8) Thu Nguyen 108k
9) Tiffany Michelle 104k
10) Stephen Martines 103k
The full schedule is here:

Steve, I am planning on attending the Limit Holdem event on Sunday and saw in the ad (on the backside of cardplayer magazine) that it is a $100k guarantee. The limit event i was in at the LAPC for the same $300 buy in had 240 entries. They need 333 entries to hit that guarantee. Does the State Championship outdraw the LAPC? First time at this one so I would love an overlay!
Last year tournament was in September. The LHE attracted 200. Matt is gambling a little bit to attract players. The LAPC is the #1 tournie at the Commerce,f’sure.
